Institut de Soudure is the French Industrial Technical Center (CTI) for joining and associated testing. Created in 1905, it has a long history of innovation in transverse fields spanning from education, technical methodology, and technology. Its main Research, Development & Innovation (RDI) centre is located in Yutz, where its team of around one hundred staff members conducts R&D work for major industry stakeholders, and takes part in various French or European funded collaborative projects.
The ICWAM’2019 visit will focus on the three technological platforms equipped with cutting edge facilities located in Yutz:
- the Joining Platform (welding, FSW, wire-feed additive-manufacturing)
- the Mechanical Testing and Corrosion Laboratory
- the Non-Destructive Testing Platform (development of testing and monitoring methods suited to metal, composite or ceramic materials).

ArcelorMittal is the world’s leading steel and mining company. ArcelorMittal is present in 60 countries and has an industrial footprint in 19 countries.
Opened in 1997, the ArcelorMittal Tailored Blanks Lorraine site is based in Uckange, 25 km from the city of Metz. With three cutting lines and six welding lines, the plant is perfectly equipped to cut and weld blanks for car bodies. The visit will focus on new technologies such as ablation for laser welding and laser cutting activities and will include a short presentation of the company.
